Publishing your book has never been easier – or cheaper!
I’m David Arscott, and I’d like to persuade you that the book you’re planning or have already finished can be published without great difficulty or cost.
Yes, I would say that, wouldn’t I? But I’ve taken many individuals and organisations painlessly through the publishing process, and I’m pleased to present the evidence for my claim in these pages.
First, my background. I’ve been a newspaper reporter, a BBC radio producer/presenter and, for many years, a publisher – but just as important for the pleasurable task of taking people through the self-publishing process is the fact that I’ve written a few dozen books myself. I do know how important it is to have your work presented just as you’ve envisaged it, although I’ll certainly offer advice as well as encouragement along the way.
What service do I offer? From your raw material I’ll produce a finished book that you can be proud of. My clients have varying needs, of course, but I’ll edit the text where that's required; scan illustrations (ditto); lay the book out; and eventually deal with the printer. You and I will have a one-to-one relationship, so that you’re in touch with the progress of your book from the first moment to the last.
It’s not so long ago that it was uneconomical to print fewer than a thousand copies, which meant (as I know to my cost) having stacks of boxes throughout the house. Today’s digital revolution means that you can have the printer run off a handful of copies and go back for more when you need them.
I’ve helped people publish everything from lavishly illustrated coffee table hardbacks to slim paperback family memoirs, autobiographies and novels. Welcome aboard!
